Architects in Brno are the key roles in our IT Development team and they are closely cooperating with the development and business teams across all DixonsCarphone locations. We are looking for a technically oriented colleague who is keen to own a part of the e-Commerce platform and will design the solution for our growing teams. The technologies and stack we use are widely spread from the on-prem infrastructure in dedicated datacenters with internally developed applications to the cloud-based services and externally developed systems running as SaaS.

Application Architect is a key role responsible for applications and systems supporting the entire eCommerce solution. They define the architecture vision for applications we own, leading and actively participating on proof of concepts and helping the Technical Leads with improving the technology stack.

What will you do? You will:

  • Define technical and technological strategy for products and applications (together with Solution Architects, Engineering leads, Technical Leads, and other technical roles).
  • Ensures the given applications or systems are fit for purpose in terms of their functional utility to end users, are capable of meeting demand including the traffic peaks and spikes, are supportable within the principles of service provisioning.
  • Align architecture across teams so that components/solutions are aligned and not duplicated.
  • Communicate architectural visions to enterprise architects, departments, and other stakeholders.
  • Represents the development team and provide technical insight during the preparation phases and new demand assessment.
  • Aligning with latest e-commerce trends and implementing it into development roadmap(s).
  • Keep the overview of the given applications and systems in terms of their current state and software life cycle, suggest or design improvement if appropriate.

Now you’re probably wondering what we expect from you? Well…

  • Excellent knowledge of large web-facing production systems architecture
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility with a desire to maintain and improve current platform is must
  • Demonstrates proficiency in multiple areas of programming (web development, performance tuning, etc.)
  • Passion for proactive exploration of new technologies and open source
  • Knowledge of development principles based on any OOP (PHP preferably), Linux, SQL and NoSQL technologies such as Oracle and Couchbase; Varnish, RabbitMQ etc.
  • Experience with maintaining, designing or tuning of large-scale systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to understand/define pros and cons of different architecture approaches
  • Good knowledge of agile principles
  • Knowledge of IT security principles
